I am an oil landscape artist specializing in scenic landscapes or waterscapes of lakes, rivers, tributaries, and streams. Most of my work is derived first-hand on location and later worked in the studio. From start to finish, I feel like an explorer that travels looking for a scene that lures and captivates with its own story to be told.
Sometimes the exploration is found locally on a nature trail or by a forever wild wetland by my home. Then there are times the call to paint may take me to unfamiliar territory that is hidden away like some forgotten treasure. But whatever the destination may be, you can be most certain that the element of water predominates my composition.
My paintings have an “in-the-moment” appeal with its textural, colorful, and tangible quality. Selective attention to the lighting, according to the time of day, is a critical factor in the composition. This is achieved by establishing a strong value scale in the early phases of the painting process. With a set framework of values, I am then able to focus on developing a life-like quality of realism which often offers the viewer a chance to step back and take a closer look.
On this site, you can choose from a collection of my locally inspired original landscapes or commission a painting of your favorite location or subject. Here are some specific links to help you with that process.
