Artist Statement
As a painter, I embrace a strong calling to paint our natural life-like surroundings. It may mean taking a simple walk down a trail to a riverside near my home on the Mohawk or a new trail to a waterfall somewhere in the Catskills. Even though the area may be unfamiliar, I quickly gain a strong connection and sense of place. I often find the abundant sights and sounds a haven with so much to give. It is there that creativity begins to flow. I respond by letting my art become like a bird song with a heartfelt message of what mother nature has created before us.
In a way, each painting is a special spiritual journey which begins with a few sketches or drawings to develop the composition The source of water is often my compelling theme. I often find the narrative of color and contrast is carefully orchestrated and balanced during all phases of the painting process.
In summary, the whole painting experience is gratifying as long as I keenly follow one key principle - to never lose sight of the light source. It is my guide no matter what season. My ultimate aim is to convey in the purest sense, what is sacred, revered, and authentic.
